The Sacred Science
I just watched the film The Sacred Science through. I’ve seen a lot of work on ritual healing in the Amazon, have read (and written) rather a lot as well. I very much would recommend this to anyone interested in healing in any form. There are critiques to be made of the film, but they are critiques that entail questions of social and cultural nuance and political-historical positioning that, while extremely important, are not necessarily within the scope of the work that the film attempts to undertake. But with that said, I was moved by the film. It was in many ways unflinching and honest about where traditional medicine both succeeded and where it failed, in the brief period highlighted by the documentary. It made me remember, all over again, why I fell in love with and remain captivated by traditional medicine, and ritual healing.
